9 SOCKS MORE FAMOUS THAN YOU
For the most part, socks spend their days working in the dark, providing comfort for their wearers with little celebration... a fact of which we are aware and unremittingly disdainful of. As you must know (how else would you be reading this?) we happen to LOVE socks, and have found in them a supreme medium through which to spread love, laugher, and sometimes lascivious intrigue.
Here are 10 socks ( technically it works out to be 19... 9 pairs and a loner) from the silver screen that have had some unforgettable roles.
1. DAZED AND CONFUSED
Nothing says "Cool kids table" like these iconic tube socks from the spunky (and in retrospect, problematic) flick!. The movie keeps getting older, and somehow the socks stay the same age 😎
2. MARIE ANTOINETTE
As a beehive is dedicated to its queen, the entirety of Versailles was utterly devoted to the care and comfort of our titular character, and, by extension, these thigh-high stockings received 5 star treatment during their time on set.
3. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION
---Who could forget Cousin Eddie's signature holiday garb?? Those legs could light up a screen faster than 25,000 twinkling light bulbs...
4. HOME ALONE
Speaking of Holiday flicks... while the final 20 or so minutes of this movie are defined by over-the-top torture and screaming, the overall feel of this feature gives us warm holiday cheer. The socks in question took Marv about halfway up the basement stairs before we really found the...point... of this scene.
5. THE WIZARD OF OZ (twofer!)
One pair will make you want to click your heels, and the other pair will make your toes curl and your surviving sister swear revenge.
6. HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS
Perfectly showcasing the versatility of our favorite garment, this single sock granted the world's cutest House Elf his freedom from the toe-headed Malfoy
7.ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
While not technically socks, these sweaty fishnet stockings made a splash when donned by the irresistible Frank N. Furter
8. CLUELESS
These gorgeous sheer knee socks quickly became an essential component of one of cinema's most iconic fashion plates.
9. RISKY BUSINESS
You didn't think we'd gloss over this one, did you? These socks slid onto the scene in 1983 and have stayed iconic ever since.
